Description

The Phoenix Children's Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is seeking a full-time Clinical Pathologist or Clinical Chemist to direct our Core Automated Chemistry section and Point of Care Testing Program at Main Campus, and to serve as CLIA Laboratory Director for one or more testing sites in our growing healthcare system.

Candidates must be a board-certified doctoral-level clinical laboratory scientist (PhD), or board-certified clinical pathologist (CP or AP/CP).  Subspecialty board certification in Clinical Chemistry by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry or American Board of Pathology is strongly preferred.  The Director of Core Chemistry and Point of Care will provide technical direction for our main campus laboratory, as well as core laboratories and waived testing within the network of care.  Prior experience in validation of both moderate and high complexity chemistry testing is required.   Leadership skills in Laboratory Direction and excellence in communication and professionalism are essential.  The successful candidate must be collaborative and show ability to create positive influence with executive leadership, other section directors, management team, and wide variety of clinical providers.

The successful candidate will direct the strategic development of our core chemistry laboratories including equipment selection, recruitment of management personnel, phased implementation, validation of test menu, and optimization and interpretation of results.  The Director will oversee quality control and quality assurance programs in clinical chemistry and point of care, and will maintain laboratory compliance with accrediting and regulatory agencies.  Strong skills in automated chemistry, point of care, pre-analytics, and laboratory information systems are also expected.  The Director will provide consultative services regarding test methodology, interpretation, and 'best practice' test utilization strategies.

Academic appointment at the University of Arizona College of Medicine at Phoenix is expected, as a significant portion of time will be dedicated to teaching activities for fellows, residents and students. Additional academic appointments at Mayo Clinic Arizona and Creighton University School of Medicine in Phoenix are available.  Scholarship, collaborative research, and participation in multidisciplinary teams is expected.
